Governor Kaine will personally present Governor's Technology Awards, receive one for the Commonwealth at COVITS


Governor Timothy M. Kaine

Governor Timothy M. Kaine will present the Governor's Technology Awards to this year's winners at COVITS on September 8 in Williamsburg. Winning entries in eight categories will be announced and presented, including honorees from local government, higher education, state entities and telework practictioners. Following this awards ceremony, the Governor also will receive an award on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for its 2008 first place rank in the national Best of the Web contest. This prestigious award will be presented by Cathilea Robinett, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Government.


Former Governor Mark Warner to headline Broadband Roundtable on Tuesday

Organizers have announced that former Governor Mark Warner will lead a special session at COVITS on Tuesday which focuses on deployment of affordable last mile broadband infrastructure in the Commonwealth. Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra will join Warner in leading this, the final meeting of the Roundtable; members will share lessons learned, discuss findings, debut online resources and forecast what lies ahead for the Commonwealth's broadband initiatives. The Commonwealth's Broadband Roundtable is a distinguished group of academics, telecom industry leaders, local and state government officials and interested citizens. It has been working since 2007 to develop a compendium of resources that will help communities reduce the cost and duration of last mile broadband deployment.
