Call for Nominations | Award Categories | Eligibility and Deadline | Criteria
This recognition program is designed to highlight Virginia government entities that are using technology to improve citizen service and/or efficiency in service delivery. Therefore, all entries must be submitted by a recognized government entity.
Private sector organizations may assist in the development of an application for a government partner but will not be officially recognized in the awards ceremony; the application must be made by and for a Virginia government entity. The one exception to this rule is for the Private Sector Telework Initiative category, which is designed for and limited to private sector entrants.
Submissions should focus on improvements in the business of government and should go well beyond a description of a private sector solution. Business partners may assist in the development of the entry, but the focus should be on the government entity's management of a solution to its identified business need.
Entries should portray projects that are implemented - i.e. actively providing service to the target audience. If the submitted project contains subsequent phases, indicate those within the narrative but focus on the measured success of the initial phase.
Organizations are invited to nominate multiple initiatives, but only one nomination per category per initiative will be accepted from each entity. Collaborative applications are strongly encouraged. Please do not submit the same program in more than one category.
Agencies and divisions of the Technology Secretariat are not eligible to apply for the 2009 Governor's Technology Awards. Projects which have received prior Governor's Technology Awards are not eligible for this year's competition.
Nominations will be evaluated by a committee of judges from government entities representing state agencies, localities, the legislature, courts and education.
Each submission must be delivered electronically using the link from the event Web site, www.covits.org. It should include an Executive Summary (limit: 400 words), and an entry that follows the criteria listed. Nominations must be kept to three (3) pages or fewer, not including the Executive Summary. Winning Executive Summaries will be posted to various Web sites.
All nominations must be received via the online submission form by August 4 , 2010. Please do not send hard copies of materials.
